Shades of IOA: A Kimono-Inspired Fashion Show and Art Event

Older Painter
Fashion and style are not beholden to age. Institute on Aging is, therefore, proud to announce its first fashion show, Kimono: Shades of IOA, featuring kimonos and unique, abstract art projects, each created by an IOA client to showcase their individual creativity and personality.

Painting For An Art Show
Each participant designed and crafted a garment, keeping in mind their individual care plans. As the pieces were constructed, older adults strengthened their motor skills by performing therapeutic motions specifically tailored to their needs. Their finished garments represent not only the imaginations of their creators, but also their ability to overcome physical adversity in the pursuit of art.
A Hand Painted KimonoThe garments will be modeled by IOA staff and volunteers, with the designers in attendance—a means of sharing these expressions of their mental and physical lives with other members of the community, bringing neighbors together across generational boundaries.
Kimono: Shades of IOA will take place on Thursday, February 16 from 1-2pm and 5:50-6:50pm in IOA’s Weingberg Auditorium at 3575 Geary Blvd in San Francisco. The event will be hosted by IOA’s Kelly Harris, Matthew Freeman, and Tandrika Mayweather. Representatives from PACE will also be present to answer any questions at their resource table, and to provide guided tours of the PACE facility.
